Happy Anniversary!

The blog is one year old!  Time flies when you are living life.  Thanks to all who view, follow or like my posts and blog.  I appreciate your interest and continued support.

I started the blog primarily for hiking and it quickly became more about life experiences and photos along the way.  I hope you have enjoyed something when you came to visit.  It’s nice to share and even nicer when someone is interested in what you enjoy.

Thanks again!

Remains of times long gone

Pine BarronsWe took a day hike into the Pine Barrens in South Jersey.  We found a lot of what we expected…sand, streams and wildlife. But then we found this old tower.  It appears to have an oven of sorts in it that had been modified over time.  Below is an explanation from Wikipedia.

During colonial times, the Pine Barrens was home to various industries. Bog iron was mined from bogs, streams, and waterways, and was worked in furnaces at BatstoLake AtsionFerragoHanover, and several other locations. Iron from these early furnaces was instrumental in supplying the American military with weapons and camp tools during the American Revolution and the War of 1812 and the Second Barbary War. The bog iron industry fell off in the mid-19th century when iron ore could be mined more cheaply in Pennsylvania. Other industries such as paper mills, sawmills, and gristmills rose and fell throughout the years. Smaller industries such as charcoal-making and glass making also were attempted and met with varying degrees of success.

Sometimes, work and life get in the way of having a blog

I have been less active on the blog lately.  It’s only a shame that I haven’t been traveling and gathering lots of great stories and photos to share.  Alas, I have been working and living life.
I notice some bloggers are stay at home while others are retired.  That’s great if you can pull that off.  The rest of us have to work.  Life, especially in the summer with it’s longer hours of daylight, also takes priority over having a blog.  So I take this time to say hello and then get back to doing all those things that need to get done.  In the meantime, here is a great line from a John Cusak movie.  Do you know what movie it is?
“I don’t want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don’t want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don’t want to do that.”
Love it!

A frog right out of Star Wars!

This frog looks like it belongs in the movie Star Wars!  The look on his face reminds me of Yoda.  In the first picture, this frog looks surprised to see me.  The second frog appears wise and very calm.  If you listen closely, you can hear him say something like, Strange you are looking at me why?

He is actually a frog who resides at the Camden Aquarium.  He looks a bit waxy and not real.  Believe me.  He is real…real cool that is!  I love this frog!

Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice!

OK so it’s not Beetle Juice and no he won’t show up if you say his name three times.  But this bugger showed up outside of my house today.  He is about an inch long and very ferocious.  I don’t see them this size that often.  Can anybody identify him?  Or at least name him for me!
