Hiking along, minding my own business. I came across a monster poison ivy vine going up a tree. This reminds me of the Tom Cruise version of the War of the Worlds. The “vines” in the movie were really carrying blood for the aliens…but anyway. Remember, this is not Grand Theft Auto. It’s for real!
Here is a poison ivy vine with leaves at the base. Notice the three leaf pattern to watch out for when in the woods. And of course, look for the weird vines in the trees!

I’ve actually always been immune to poison ivy. But I’ve read that it’s possible to lose one’s immunity–so I keep my distance from it.
Wow! Who knew they got that big. Down here Poison Ivy is everywhere but I have never seen it look like an out of control grape vine LOL.
and this is in the “jungles” of NJ! Makes a heck of a wine. Drunk and itchy are the results!

Count me in as one being allergic to the stuff. Can the vine strangle a tree?
I guess it is possible. But more often they become “part of” the tree and almost impossible to remove.
We’ve sawed a section out, then used a poison ivy killer or something like Roundup on the cut … and it has worked.
